How to Check Bearings Are Genuine Before You Import

Supplier, document, packaging and marking checks that reduce the risk of counterfeit bearings.

Counterfeit and mislabelled bearings cause early failures and unplanned stops. Importers can cut the risk with a few checks before and after the order.

1. Buy through a traceable supplier

Ask for the company's registration details, address and tax number, and check that the bank account is in the company's name. A supplier who is open about sources and batches is easier to trust.

2. Ask for documents

Request the manufacturer's invoice or batch details and, where available, test or quality certificates. Keep these with the shipping documents.

3. Inspect the packaging

Look at the box print quality, the label, the part number and the country of origin marking. Compare with a known genuine box. Poor print, spelling mistakes or a mismatch between box and bearing are warning signs.

4. Inspect the bearing

Check the engraving or laser marking, the finish and the seals. Turn the bearing by hand: it should run smoothly and quietly. Compare the weight and dimensions with the catalogue.

5. Verify with the manufacturer

For critical applications, ask the brand owner to verify the batch or serial marks. Most major brands have a process for this.
