About Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Cylindrical roller bearings use cylindrical rollers as rolling elements, forming a line contact with the raceways of the inner and outer rings. This gives them a much higher radial load capacity than a ball bearing of the same size.

They are produced in many variants — N, NF, NJ, NU and NUP — which differ in where the ribs are located, and so in how much axial location or axial float they allow.

  • Capable of carrying high radial loads but limited axial loads
  • Suitable for medium to high load applications
  • Suitable for low and medium speed applications
  • Suitable for applications requiring good running accuracy at higher radial loads

Available Variants

  • Single row types — N, NF, NJ, NU and NUP
  • Double row types — NN and NNU (details available on request)
  • Higher load capacity — E type
  • With snap ring groove
  • With snap ring groove and snap ring
  • With C2, CN and C3 radial clearance
  • Standard precision grade P0 and higher precision grades P6 and P5
  • Pressed steel, machined brass or steel cage
  • Straight or tapered bore

Suffix Codes

Add these suffixes to the bearing number to specify clearance, cage and bore options.

SuffixMeaning
AModified internal design.
C2Radial internal clearance less than normal.
CNNormal radial internal clearance. Generally, no special suffix is used for normal radial internal clearance.
C3Radial internal clearance higher than normal.
EEnhanced load capacity.
KTapered bore, with taper of 1:12.
MMachined brass cage.
NSnap ring groove in the outer ring.
NRSnap ring groove in the outer ring, with snap ring.
P5Dimensional and running accuracy conforming to ISO class 5.
P6Dimensional and running accuracy conforming to ISO class 6.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes are available in the NU2 series?

NU2 series bearings are available from 17mm – 150mm bore, as listed in the dimension table on this page. Each size has its own bearing number for ordering.

What load ratings apply to NU2 bearings?

Dynamic and static load ratings vary by size — see the table for the exact rating per bearing number. Larger sizes carry proportionally higher load ratings.

What is the NU2 series typically used for?

Common applications include electric motors and generators and gearboxes, rolling mills and heavy machinery, and similar general industrial equipment.

What is the difference between N, NF, NJ, NU and NUP types?

They differ in rib arrangement: NU and N allow axial float, NJ and NF locate the shaft in one direction, and NUP locates it in both directions.

Can I order NU2 series bearings with special options?

Yes. Many options are available — see the variants and suffix codes on this page — subject to design and manufacturing constraints. Share your requirement in a quote request.
