About Deep Groove Ball Bearings
Deep groove ball bearings are the most popular of all bearing types, thanks to their simple design and wide availability across the ISO standard dimension plan. Each ring has a deep, uninterrupted raceway groove, so the bearing carries radial load and axial load in either direction.
They can also be made to special dimensional requirements, within basic design limitations.
- Capable of carrying load in either direction, with relatively higher radial load carrying capacity
- Suitable for low or medium load applications
- Suitable for low, medium or even high speed applications, depending on the type and precision of the selected bearing
- Well suited for applications that require high running accuracy
- Suitable for low noise and low torque applications
Available Variants
- Single and double row types
- Open basic design type
- Sealed types
- With snap ring groove
- With snap ring groove and snap ring
- With C2, CN, C3, C4 and C5 radial clearance
- Standard precision grade (ISO Grade 0 – ABEC1) and higher precision grade (ISO Grade 1 – ABEC3)
- With extended inner ring
- Pressed steel, riveted, plastic and machined brass cage
Suffix Codes
Add these suffixes to the bearing number to specify seals, clearance, cage and precision options.
| Suffix | Meaning |
|---|---|
| A | Modified internal design. |
| C2 | Radial internal clearance less than normal. |
| CN | Normal radial internal clearance. Generally, no special suffix is used for normal radial internal clearance. |
| C3 | Radial internal clearance higher than normal. |
| C4 | Radial internal clearance higher than C3. |
| C5 | Radial internal clearance higher than C4. |
| E | Electric motor quality. |
| G1–G15 | Internal grease type codes. Contact us for details. |

| 2RS | Rubber seal with steel sheet reinforcement on both sides of the bearing. |
| 2RSL | Double lip type rubber seal with special groove in the inner ring, fixed at both bearing sides. |
| Z | Metallic shield on one side of the bearing. |
| ZZ | Metallic shield on both sides of the bearing. |
| F | Used as a prefix for a flange on the outer ring. |
Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes are available in the 6400 series?
6400 series bearings are available from 17mm – 90mm bore, as listed in the dimension table on this page. Each size has its own bearing number for ordering.
What load ratings apply to 6400 bearings?
Dynamic and static load ratings vary by size — see the table for the exact rating per bearing number. Larger sizes carry proportionally higher load ratings.
What is the 6400 series typically used for?
Common applications include electric motors and general rotating machinery and gearboxes and power transmission shafts, and similar general industrial equipment.
What do suffixes like 2RS, ZZ and C3 mean?
2RS means rubber seals on both sides, ZZ means metal shields on both sides, and C3 means radial clearance larger than normal. The full suffix list is given on this page.
Can I order 6400 series bearings with special options?
Yes. Many options are available — see the variants and suffix codes on this page — subject to design and manufacturing constraints. Share your requirement in a quote request.
